I don't have the same issue as far as the Mac freezing and Core Audio is running but have tried all of the steps outlined for my mid 2011 MacBook Air and still no I/O devices (internal or even if I plug in headphones. So, in summary: My late 2013 MacBook Air has zero issues from the first Beta onwards (at least with audio). Install audio and MIDI device drivers; Allow from App Store.

MOTU 828 (Original version, latest drivers)
Digi 002 Rack (latest CoreAudio drivers)
MacBook Pro 2.4 GHz, 2GB RAM, 160 GB HD (16 GB free)
Rocstor 500GB 7200 RPM FireWire 800 Drive

Whenever the Digi 002 Rack is connected, and the ARP 2600 virtual instrument control window is open, then all audio coming in through the system is very crackly and horrible. When the ARP 2600 window is closed (plugin is still enabled though) then the incoming audio sounds fine. However, if you listen to the recording, there are still crackles in it, just very sparse. I have my buffer set to 128k and my Host Buffer Multiplier at 2. It did not help to set it to 1 or 3.
When I record with just the MOTU 828 only, things are fine. When I record with just the Digi 002 Rack, things are crappy. Having them both hooked up does not seem to affect things worse than just having the Digi 002 Rack connected.
I can hardly imagine how this could be a processor performance related issue. This is the fastest laptop computer on the market with dual-core 2.4 GHz processors. It should be more than enough to handle recording up to 16 tracks and running one virtual instrument. Or am I wrong?
I've really had a hell of a time getting this Digi 002 Rack to work at all with this configuration. I finally got it to pipe in audio, but now it seems to really be processor intensive for some reason.
I really need a solution to make this work. it has been extremely frustrating for my band as we have been trying to record with this set-up. I spent $2500 on the laptop, $1500 on the audio interfaces, $300 on the expensive high-speed hard drive (at the time), etc. This is a $4000 rig, why can't it handle just one virtual instrument and several tracks?
Is compatibility between MOTU DP5 and Digi 002 Rack really that poor? Please tell me it's a preferences option that I still need to change or something in my DP5 project setup or studio setup that I can change that will fix this, because otherwise I'm fairly disappointed.
