Snes9x is a Super Nintendo Entertainment Systememulator with official ports for MS-DOS, Linux, Microsoft Windows, AmigaOS 4, macOS, MorphOS, Xbox, PSP, PS3, GameCube, Wii, iOS, and Android.[4]Windows RT and Windows Phone 8 have an unofficial port named Snes8x.

Background[edit]

Snes9x for 3DS is a high-compatibility SNES emulator for your Old 3DS / 2DS. It runs many games at full speed (60 fps). It supports games that use CX4 chip (Megaman X2/X3), and the SDD-1 chip (Star Ocean, Super Street Fighter 2 Alpha). Snes9x is a piece of software that allows you to enjoy those games on your Windows device. Developed in 1999, Snes9x is still one of the best emulators on the market, and regularly maintained as well. With the graphics filters, you can alter the appearance of the game you’re emulating. Some options include de-pixelating and coloring scanlines. Snes9x-Next is an optimized version of Snes9x 1.52 with speedhacks and is available as a libretro core for RetroArch and ZMZ. Has an option to overclock the SuperFX chip, making games like Star Fox run at a higher FPS. Snes9xTYL (mecm)/cm Mod is a port of Snes9x 1.39 to PSP. Inaccuracies everywhere, especially with sound, but it's the best. Advanced open-source port of the Snes9x emulator based on version 1.55. A 1GHz+ device is recommended for best results. For older devices, a faster version based on 1.43 is available for download on my site. Any ROM media must be supplied by the user.

Development of Snes9x began in July 1997 when Snes96's Gary Henderson and Snes97's Jerremy Koot merged their respective emulators to create Snes9x. Snes9x was among the first to emulate most SNES enhancement chips at some level.[citation needed] In version 1.53, it added support for Cgshaders.[5] Version 1.55 added support for the MSU-1 enhanced chip [6] found on the SD2SNES [7]

The emulator PocketSNES for Pocket PCs is based on Snes9X.[8]

There is also an unofficial Snes9x port compiled with Emscripten which runs inside a web browser.[9][10]
